Atlanta, Georgia—Today the Georgia House of Representatives voted to reform cosmetology licensing. The reforms in SB 354 exempt blow-dry styling and makeup application from services that require a license to perform in the Peach State.
Americans for Prosperity-Georgia (AFP-GA) championed the reforms as a way to increase employment and reduce barriers to entry in the field of cosmetology.
AFP-GA State Director Tony West issued the following statement:
“These licensing reforms make the beauty industry in Georgia more accessible and welcoming to budding entrepreneurs. We’re grateful to the members of the House who voted to make it easier to enter the industry and eliminate the costly and time-consuming process of acquiring a license for blow-dry styling and makeup application.
“We encourage Governor Kemp to sign this bill and hope that lawmakers in Atlanta will continue to eliminate barriers to entry across all industries in Georgia so that more hard-working Georgians can work and open businesses in the state.”
