Arlington VA – Americans For Prosperity today congratulated Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson on her nomination to the Supreme Court and urged the Senate to carefully evaluate her qualifications, including her judicial philosophy.
Casey Mattox, Vice President for Legal and Judicial Strategy at Americans for Prosperity, issued the following statement:
“As AFP has said in previous nominations, the role of a justice is to faithfully interpret the Constitution and make decisions based on the text of our laws rather than any personal agenda. Supreme Court Justices are not legislators. The American people already elect state legislators and members of Congress to make policy decisions. A good judge understands this distinction.
“We urge the Senate to ask thoughtful questions and look forward to hearing Judge Jackson’s views of the proper role of a Supreme Court Justice and the Court, which will give Americans important insight into how she would approach her decisions. Recently Supreme Court hearings have been a disappointing combination of grandstanding and personal attacks that do a disservice to both the nominee and the American people. We are encouraged that this time will be different, and look forward to Judge Jackson being questioned about and sharing her judicial philosophy.”
