Grassroots group urges Governor Fallin to sign measure into law

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.—Americans for Prosperity-Oklahoma (AFP-OK) on Wednesday applauded the final passage of HB1270, the Act to Restore Hope, Opportunity, and Prosperity for Everyone (HOPE Act), which would combat fraud and abuse of our scarce Medicaid resources by ensuring benefits are going to those eligible to receive them. Some projections claim this would save the state $86 million or more.

“Our state is in a budget crisis; but the solution is not raising taxes, it’s responsible spending and using our existing resources on the most important and beneficial priorities. The HOPE Act is a major step forward in reforming our state budget and shows the Oklahoma legislature is serious about reforms” said John Tidwell, AFP-OK State Director.

“We are delighted to see this bill advance, and are encouraged by Governor Fallin’s recent efforts to reform Medicaid and bring some stability to our budget. We urge her to sign the bill,” Tidwell added.

Last week Governor Fallin issued Executive Order 2018-05 which begins the process of establishing work requirements for Medicaid recipients. AFP supported that effort as part of major state budget reforms.
