Biden Administration Rolls Out Another Gimmick, Continuing to Avoid Any Meaningful Policy Change to Address Energy Costs

Arlington, VA – In response to President Biden’s announcement today that he is urging Congress to pass a gas tax holiday to address historically high fuel and energy prices, Americans for Prosperity Vice President of Government Affairs Akash Chougule issued the following statement:

“It’s extraordinary the lengths the Biden administration will go to avoid any meaningful policy change that would lower energy prices. Overwhelming numbers of Americans are clamoring for a true all-of-the-above energy policy, and what they’re hearing about instead are gift cards and tax holidays. President Obama was right when he called out these gimmicks during his administration, and Congress would be right to reject them today.

“The only thing standing in the way of American energy abundance is politics. President Biden campaigned on a foolish promise to eliminate fossil fuels, and he should change course. It was always a false choice that the only way to expand alternative sources of energy was to declare war on traditional ones. Americans are paying nearly $500 more each month – the administration shouldn’t let empty campaign promises bind them to bad policy.

“Now is the time for bold solutions, not dead-on-arrival political messaging bills that won’t do a thing to lower costs in the long-run.”

According to a recent poll by Public Opinion Strategies, an overwhelming 88 percent agreed that making it easier to develop and produce American energy would be an effective way to reduce inflation.
