On the evening of Saturday, September 29, President Donald Trump nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.
Immediately, Americans for Prosperity’s grassroots network jumped into action.
“We are very excited about Judge Barrett,” Casey Mattox, Americans for Prosperity’s senior vice president for legal and judicial strategy, told activists in a Facebook Live held minutes after Barrett’s nomination. “We are quite confident that [she] is someone who is going to put the Constitution first, who is going to defend our freedoms, and not legislate from the bench. That’s exactly the kind of judge that should be on the Supreme Court of the United States.”
And that is why activists are excited about Judge Barrett. In less than a week after the launch of Americans for Prosperity’s full-scale Supreme Court campaign, they’ve sent over 200,000 letters urging senators to confirm her nomination. That exceeds even the tremendous response by activists over three months on behalf of Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation battle.
In addition to sending letters to lawmakers, Americans for Prosperity’s permanent grassroots infrastructure is mobilizing to text and call friends and neighbors and encourage them to take part in this historic endeavor.
These activities are complemented by targeted direct mail, layered digital outreach, and other on-the-ground actions in 13 key states, including Alaska, Utah, and West Virginia. A national ad campaign is also underway and empowering an increasing number of people to speak out for a nominee they believe in.
It is critical to keep this grassroots momentum going. Judge Barrett’s nomination will affect the nation for years to come, and we can’t take it for granted. We need to continue encouraging senators to remain committed to her confirmation. We also need to empower more and more people to contribute to this effort. An impressive number of people have already begun taking action — how many more can we engage if we keep this up?
