Americans for Prosperity-Virginia Responds to Gov. Northam Signing New Policing and Criminal Justice Reforms into Law

RICHMOND, Va. – Americans for Prosperity-Virginia (AFP-VA) today applauded Gov. Northam for putting into effect SB 5030 and SB 5018 this week. During the special session, the grassroots group supported these two critical pieces of legislation concerning policing reform and the conditional release of certain terminally ill individuals from prison.

Americans for Prosperity-Virginia State Director JC Hernandez issued the following statement:

“We’re glad to see Gov. Northam enact these two pieces of legislation which will increase the effectiveness of law enforcement and allow those who are terminally ill to receive appropriate care with compassion. It will be encouraging to see future steps towards building greater trust between police and the communities they serve as well as to see these folks reunited with their families. Our grassroots communities and coalition partners fought hard to secure these wins at this critical moment in time where these issues are at the forefront, so I could not be prouder of them and their efforts.”
