Americans for Prosperity to Congress: Reject the EARN IT Act

Arlington, Va. – Americans for Prosperity Senior Policy Analyst Billy Easley II issued the following statement regarding Congress’ effort to hotline the EARN IT Act.

“We urge Senators to oppose the EARN IT Act, which jeopardizes online free speech and could be counterproductive to combatting child abuse. Americans for Prosperity has joined with organizations across the political spectrum to oppose this legislation. Congress should take immediate action to reduce the spread of sexual abuse material online but this bill will not crack down on this vile content. Instead, it broadly restricts what content internet platforms can host and risks violating the Fourth Amendment – which could have a harmful impact on state and federal cases against child abusers. We urge Senators to reject the EARN IT Act when it comes to the Senate floor and create legislation that effectively targets this content.”
