Americans for Prosperity Praises Introduction of Medicinal Marijuana Bill

Will help South Carolinians suffering from autism, chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, and the effects of chemotherapy

COLUMBIA, SC — Americans for Prosperity – South Carolina (AFP-SC) today praised Senator Tom Davis (R-Beaufort) for introducing S. 423, to allow medical marijuana products to be prescribed by licensed physicians, acquired from a highly regulated state-authorized pharmacies, and used for 13 specific conditions based on research testing its effectiveness.

This bill overwhelmingly passed the Senate last year, before being ruled out-of-order on a procedural technicality in the House.

AFP-SC State Director Candace Carroll released the following statement:

“This bill will offer a lifeline to suffering South Carolinians. Medicinal marijuana has been proven to help those suffering from autism, chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, and the effects of chemotherapy in cancer patients, among others. Senator Davis has been a leader on this issue. 37 states – including Mississippi, Alabama, and Oklahoma – allow for this compassionate use, and this year, South Carolina should join them.”
