AFP-Virginia Urges Governor to Make Temporary Lift of Burdensome Regulations on Practicing and Providing Health Care in Virginia Permanent

Jan 13, 2022 by AFP

RICHMOND, VA—Americans for Prosperity-Virginia (AFP-VA) issued the following statement in response to Governor Northam’s emergency order to address record hospitalizations in Virginia.

The emergency order allows providers with active out-of-state licenses to practice in Virginia, permits physicians assistants to practice without a written supervisory agreement, and waives bed-caps, amongst other measures.

“How many temporary lifts will it take until Virginia lawmakers permanently remove red tape that holds back Virginians from accessing the health care they need, when they need it, at a price they can afford? We’ve seen that removing these restrictions and empowering health care professionals during the pandemic has saved lives and we can take what we learned from combating the pandemic to ensure high quality care moving forward, said State Director JC Hernandez. He went on to add, “this legislative session lawmakers should prioritize giving Virginians personal options when it comes to their health care and repealing unnecessary regulations like Certificate of Public Needs laws.”
