AFP Urges Trump Administration to Stop Escalating Trade War

May 5, 2019 by AFP

Arlington, Va. – Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips issued the following statement responding to news reports that President Trump intends to increase tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods to 25% this coming Friday.

“Hiking tariffs to 25% would have a devastating impact on American consumers and businesses. We continue to urge the White House not to undermine its most significant achievements by escalating this trade war. The result of these negotiations was supposed to be a better deal with fewer barriers. The tax and regulatory policies of this administration are working. Today’s prosperity is in spite of tariffs – not because of them – and it is no reason to harm Americans by imposing more.”
