AFP to Sen. Cassidy: “Unrig the Economy”

Jun 13, 2019 by AFP

BATON ROUGE, La.—Americans for Prosperity-Louisiana (AFP-LA) today highlighted its role as part of a national campaign through digital ads and mail urging Sen. Bill Cassidy to “unrig the economy” and level the playing field for all Louisianans.

According to a recent Washington Post/ABC News poll, 62% of Americans say the U.S. economic system mainly benefits those in power. The ads and mail are a part of a comprehensive, integrated nationwide campaign to urge lawmakers to create a strong economy by leveling the playing field for all. Called “Unrig the Economy,” this multi-year, multi-million-dollar effort will harness the power of AFP’s grassroots activists to drive change at both the state and federal level.

The initial phase in Louisiana will kick off with a robust direct mail and digital effort asking Sen. Cassidy to stop the renewal of “tax extenders,” a practice that perpetuates an economy that caters to special interests, leaving taxpayers to foot the bill.

AFP-LA State Director John Kay issued the following statement:

“Legislators must end the practice of renewing ‘tax extenders,’ which are nothing more than special interest giveaways that leave taxpayers footing the bill. It’s no wonder majority of Americans think the economy favors the well-connected when renewing ‘tax extenders’ become an annual tradition. It needs to stop. And Sen. Cassidy can send the right message to Louisianans by opposing these special interest giveaways.”
