AFP-PA to Lawmakers: Give Pennsylvanians a Fighting Chance

Jun 17, 2019 by AFP

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Americans for Prosperity-Pennsylvania (AFP-PA) on Monday announced a new grassroots effort to encourage state lawmakers to pass H.B. 995, the Fighting Chance Act, bipartisan legislation that would create a pilot program to reduce red tape and licensing mandates that burden workers, formerly incarcerated individuals, and small business owners. The effort, which currently includes digital ads, phone banking, and text messages, encourages lawmakers to move H.B. 995 out of the House State Government Committee and to the floor for a full vote.

AFP-PA State Director Ashley Klingensmith issued the following statement:

“Pennsylvanians have so much to offer, but burdensome and unnecessary regulations too often get in their way. We should make it easier, not harder, for Pennsylvanians to reach their potential. We need to come together to ease the regulatory burden on Pennsylvanians, level the playing field so that everyone has the same shot at success, and create new opportunities for folks to improve their livelihoods. The Fighting Chance Act is a key step toward unleashing Pennsylvanians’ potential and we just can’t pass it up.”

BACKGROUND:

AFP-PA last week highlighted its role as part of an integrated, comprehensive campaign to build a strong economy by leveling the playing field for all. Called “Unrig the Economy,” this multi-year, multi-million-dollar campaign is part of a national effort that will harness the power of AFP’s grassroots activists to drive change at both the state and federal level. Passing H.B. 995, The Fighting Chance Act, is a priority of the effort.

H.B. 995 is modeled after legislation in Virginia that was recently passed by the Republican legislature and signed by the Democratic Governor.
