AFP-PA Applauds Senate for Passing Occupational Licensure Reform

Nov 21, 2019 by AFP

HARRISBURG, PA – Americans for Prosperity – Pennsylvania (AFP-PA) today thanked the Pennsylvania Senate for unanimously passing Senate Bill 637, which would help provide a pathway to employment for individuals who have a criminal record. Currently, government occupational licensing laws and regulations prevent Pennsylvanians with past convictions who have paid their debt to society from earning a fulfilling living and improving the lives of their families and communities.

AFP-PA State Director Ashley Klingensmith issued the following statement:

“A past mistake shouldn’t be a permanent mark for someone making a good faith effort at a fresh start. Too many Pennsylvanians are excluded from employment because of past mistakes, no matter how long ago or relevant they are to the job they wish to perform. Our activists in Pennsylvania are working to remove these and countless other barriers by reforming policies like occupational licensing that limit access to employment and hurt former prisoners trying to productively reintegrate into society. We thank Sen. DiSanto and Sen. Schwank for introducing this bill and urge the House to move on companion bill HB 1477 in short order.”
