AFP on Failure of House Committee to Advance Drug Price Controls

Sep 15, 2021 by AFP

Arlington, Va. – Today, the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce deadlocked on a vote to approve legislation that would put the federal government in charge of drug prices. The tie vote means the measure does not advance out of this committee for now, and dramatically reduces the likelihood of the bill becoming law later this year.

“We applaud Reps. Peters, Rice, and Schrader for joining with other lawmakers and standing with patients who desperately depend on current and future lifesaving cures,” said Dean Clancy, Senior Health Policy Fellow at Americans for Prosperity. “While we all agree that more can be done to make prescription drugs more affordable, putting Washington in charge would hurt the very people who need help the most. We encourage lawmakers to unite behind legislation that would lower prescription costs while ensuring that patients continue to access the medications they rely on.”
