AFP-NC Disappointed by Cooper Request for Drilling Exemption

Feb 3, 2018 by AFP

RALEIGH, N.C.—Americans for Prosperity-North Carolina (AFP-NC) offered the following statement amidst Saturday’s meeting between U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke and North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper regarding Interior’s proposals for responsibly developing the National Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program (National OCS Program) for 2019-2024:

“Americans for Prosperity stands with many in our congressional delegation and state leaders who support the Trump Administration and Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke’s offshore oil and gas exploration plan. Governor Cooper asking for an exemption to the plan is simply Governor Cooper throwing up road blocks to economic growth and opportunities for lower energy costs,” said AFP-NC Deputy Director Anna Beavon Gravely. “This is yet another example of Governor Cooper being tone deaf to innovations that will unleash North Carolina’s energy potential and opportunities for new levels of economic growth and job creation. It is a shame that our governor is fighting progress and standing in the way of much desired exploration.”
