AFP-NC Applauds House Republicans for Holding the Line on Medicaid Expansion

Raleigh, North Carolina—Americans for Prosperity-North Carolina (AFP-NC) today praised Republican leadership in the North Carolina House of Representatives for opposing the North Carolina Senate’s proposal to expand Medicaid in the Tarheel State.

AFP-NC State Director Chris McCoy gave the following statement after Speaker Moore announced that the House would not be taking up the Senate’s proposal:

“Speaker Moore and the rest of his caucus deserve commendation for their leadership. The last thing that North Carolinians need is to throw more of their hard-earned tax dollars at a flawed program. While the state legislature should be considering ways to increase access to high-quality, affordable health care, simply expanding Medicaid is not the solution. AFP-North Carolina is proud to support these leaders who held the line.

“The Senate should go back to the drawing board and create a package of reforms that would increase patients’ access to health care by allowing nurse practitioners to expand their scope of practice and abolish “certificate of need” requirements that artificially reduce the number of medical facilities in rural areas. We look forward to working with the Senate to craft legislation that would amount to a personal option for all North Carolinians.”
