AFP: Michigan Legislative Leaders Stand Up to Special Interests with Prevailing Wage Vote

Lansing, Mich. – Michigan legislative leaders took a huge step forward today to strengthen a free, fair and competitive market by voting to repeal the state’s prevailing wage mandate, said Americans for Prosperity.

AFP-Michigan State Director Pete Lund issued the following statement:

“We applaud the courage and commitment of our leaders in the House and Senate who took a strong stand for taxpayers today and stood up to special interests that for far too long have forced unnecessary and expensive mandates on public construction projects.

“Our legislative leaders have made many positive changes over the past eight years that have helped to make Michigan a better place to live, work and do business. Repealing the state’s prevailing wage mandate continues to set a positive direction for our state’s economy. It will ensure that taxpayers get a better deal on public construction projects and anytime taxpayer’s can get more bang for the buck it’s a good thing.

“House Speaker Tom Leonard and Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof have helped to ensure our local communities will be able to stretch tax dollars further and still ensure high quality work. By repealing prevailing wage mandates, they have strengthened a free, fair, and competitive market. Our activists will be thanking them for their vote.”
