AFP Launches Major Campaign Against Wasteful Government Spending

Ads and mail thank Reps. Tom Emmer and Jason Lewis for vote to stop massive spending spree

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Americans for Prosperity (AFP) announced today the start of a major campaign that will hold accountable Republicans and Democrats for their records on wasteful spending and thank champions who have protected taxpayers. Included in the campaign are ads and mailers thanking Representatives Tom Emmer and Jason Lewis for their vote against the $1.3 trillion omnibus package in March.

“When many lawmakers fell prey to Washington’s spending addiction, Representatives Emmer and Lewis showed they are committed to putting America back on a fiscally sustainable path. We cannot afford for lawmakers to not only ignore, but worsen our country’s fiscal future,” said Jason Flohrs, AFP-MN State Director. “Not only are we burdening future generations with massive debt, but Minnesotans today will not see the full potential of tax reform if we do not close the floodgates on spending. AFP-MN thanks Reps. Emmer and Lewis for proving they are good stewards of our taxpayer dollars and taking a principled stand against Washington’s runaway spending.”

The recent $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill pushed total Washington spending above $4 trillion for the first time and failed to make any reforms to entitlement programs, which are the major drivers of the national debt. While tax reform was a win for hard-working Americans, AFP has long advocated the importance of pairing tax cuts with spending restraint to grow the economy and improve the lives of all Americans.

The campaign will feature a video and website, www.StopOverspending.com, to inform the American people about the importance of reducing excessive and out-of-control federal spending and urging them to tell lawmakers to control Washington’s spending problem.
