AFP: Governor’s Line-Item Veto Hurts Michigan Families, Students, Small Business

Mar 9, 2021 by AFP

Lansing, Mich. – Americans for Prosperity-Michigan today issued the following statement in response to Governor Whitmer’s line-item veto of some COVID relief funding:

“Governor Whitmer has prioritized her one-size-fits-all unilateral approach over struggling Michigan families, students, and small businesses. We urge her to come together and negotiate in good faith with the people’s elected leaders in the House and Senate as a co-equal branch of government.

“Bottom-up, people-driven solutions will continue to be the best way we can tackle the challenges we face. Unfortunately, the Governor has vetoed important opportunities to drive our response to this pandemic and help our economy recover. The Governor ought to embrace opportunities to offer support to our non-public schools, many of which offered in-person learning options to families when public schools were closed; allow families access to grant dollars and summer school programming so they can choose the best option to close learning gaps, soften the blow of skyrocketing unemployment claims to businesses so they can focus on bringing back jobs, and expand COVID testing and vaccine deployment.”
