AFP Commends Senate for Advancing First Step Act, Rejecting Harmful Amendments

Dec 18, 2018 by AFP

ARLINGTON, Va. – Americans for Prosperity this evening is applauding a bipartisan Senate majority for advancing the First Step Act, which will improve public safety, reduce crime, save taxpayer money and give those who have paid their debts to society a second chance to become productive, law-abiding citizens.

Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips issued the following statement:

“We are pleased that a bipartisan majority in the Senate tonight rejected ‘poison pills’ designed to kill the First Step Act and voted to bring the smart-on-crime legislation one step closer to becoming law. We applaud every senator who came together to put policy ahead of politics, and strongly urge the House to quickly send the First Step Act to President Trump for his signature.”
