AFP Commends House Passage of Financial CHOICE Act 2.0

Jun 9, 2017 by AFP

Arlington, Va. – Americans for Prosperity cheered the House’s passage of the Financial CHOICE Act 2.0 Thursday, which would roll back the worst provisions of the Dodd-Frank regulatory behemoth and add much-needed accountability to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

The organization issued a “key vote alert” in favor of the bill, sponsored by Rep. Jeb Hensarling, Financial Services Committee Chairman.

AFP Vice President of External Affairs Christine Harbin issued a statement following the House vote:

“It’s encouraging to see the House take positive action to fix our country’s broken banking laws. The Financial CHOICE Act is an important banking reform bill, which would eliminate the biggest regulatory burdens of Dodd-Frank, bringing meaningful relief to consumers and small businesses. The CHOICE Act also brings desperately-needed oversight to federal banking agencies like the CFPB.”

“Rolling back these failed Dodd-Frank policies will give families and financial institutions better access to capital, which will lead to greater job growth, personal wealth, and overall economic prosperity. We look forward to working with the Senate to advance this important legislation.”

AFP sat down with Chairman Hensarling on Wednesday to discuss the important reforms within the Financial CHOICE Act. Click here to view video of the conversation between Hensarling and Harbin, which was broadcast live from AFP’s Facebook page.

In May, Americans for Prosperity led a coalition of more than 20 conservative organizations in sending a letter of support for the CHOICE Act.
