AFP Applauds Passage of Resolution Protecting Cannabis Industry from Unprecedented Government Overreach

Jan 22, 2020 by AFP

LANSING, MI – Americans for Prosperity- Michigan (AFP-MI) joined a broad coalition in thanking the Senate for passing a resolution barring Michigan’s Marijuana Regulatory Agency from forcing cannabis businesses to unionize as a condition of their licensure.

Americans for Prosperity-Michigan State Director, Annie Patnaude, issued the following statement:

“Lawmakers were right to pass this resolution. Forcing employers to engage in so-called labor peace agreements with unions interferes with the freedom for workers to decide for themselves if they’d like to join a union. Instead of fostering a positive workplace environment between employers, workers, and labor unions, mandatory ‘labor peace agreements’ would undermine the choice and dignity of employers and individual workers while granting unequal privileges to labor unions.

“We thank the Senate for passing this resolution and protecting Michigan businesses from unprecedented government overreach.”

AFP-MI was joined by Michigan Cannabis Manufacturers Association, Great Lakes Cannabis Chamber of Commerce, Small Business Association of Michigan, National Federation of Independent Business, Michigan Chamber of Commerce, Grand Rapids Regional Chamber of Commerce, Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association, Associated Builders and Contractors of Michigan, Michigan Freedom Fund, Mackinac Center for Public Policy, Reason Foundation

And the Center for Independent Employees in support of this resolution.
