Former House policy advisor returns to Lansing to lead the group’s work with state lawmakers
LANSING, MI — Americans for Prosperity-Michigan (AFP-MI) announced today that Jonathan Magry has joined the organization as its Legislative Liaison. In the role, Magry will work with the State Director and Deputy State Director to advance AFP’s Policy Priorities in the State Legislature, advancing the group’s priorities on government transparency, spending restraint, and removing barriers that keep Michiganders from building better lives.
Magry comes to AFP-MI with a background in both public policy and private-sector business. He previously served as a Legislative Director and then as a Policy Advisor in the Michigan House of Representatives, where he became an advocate for strong legislative oversight and a limited, responsible government. After a stint in the private sector working as a cyber security professional, he is returning to Lansing to take up AFP-MI’s legislative work.
“Jon spent years in the House pushing lawmakers to hold agencies accountable and keep government within its limits, and he understands how policy actually moves in Lansing,” said Tim Golding, AFP-MI State Director. “He could have stayed in the private sector. He chose to come back to this fight, and Michiganders are better off for it.”
“Decisions made in Lansing shape whether people in this state can start a business, keep more of what they earn, and get a fair shot,” Magry said. “Too many of those decisions get made without real scrutiny. I’m glad to be back, and glad to be doing this work with the grassroots activists AFP-MI has built across Michigan.”
Magry begins in the role immediately.
