AFP-PA Urges State House to Pass Key Housing Reform Legalizing ADUs

Americans for Prosperity Press Release

HARRISBURG, PA – Americans for Prosperity-Pennsylvania (AFP-PA) called on the state House of Representatives to pass a major housing reform on Monday to lower the cost of living for millions of hardworking Pennsylvanians.

AFP-PA issued a “key vote alert” to House members on Monday to support the bill (HD 2186) that would legalize accessory dwelling units (ADUs) statewide by removing an outdated barrier that prevents homeowners to build additional housing on their land and stifles the housing supply from meeting demand.

Nick Kerin, APF-PA deputy state director, gave the following statement:

“Pennsylvania’s housing crisis is entirely man-made. Removing the outdated local barriers that prevent people from converting their basement into an apartment or building a backyard cottage is a commonsense reform to expand the housing supply and deliver more affordable homes in the places where people want to live.

“AFP-PA calls on the House to pass HB 2186 quickly to unshackle the housing market and improve housing affordability across the commonwealth.”
