| WASHINGTON, D.C.— Americans for Prosperity (AFP) today applauded Senator McCormick’s Unlock American Jobs and Energy Act as a critical step toward fixing the broken permitting system, lowering energy prices, and restoring American energy leadership.
“Senator McCormick’s leadership on permitting reform is exactly what the country needs right now,” said Brent Gardner, Chief Government Affairs Officer at Americans for Prosperity. “His effort recognizes that an efficient, transparent permitting system is foundational to lowering prices for Americans by unleashing domestic energy, driving investment, and ensuring we can meet growing demand at home and abroad.” For too long, outdated and overly burdensome permitting processes have delayed vital infrastructure and energy projects across the country. Currently, 650 projects and trillions of dollars in economic activity remain stuck in permitting purgatory, raising energy prices and undermining efforts to meet the nation’s energy needs. “Permitting reform is essential if we’re serious about unleashing American energy and strengthening our economic future,” Gardner continued. “Right now, hundreds of projects are stalled by government bureaucracy, creating both economic and energy security problems.” Now Senate Democrats need to come to the table and work with Republicans to lower energy prices, help America build again, and get government out of the way of picking winners and losers in the energy market. AFP is continuing a grassroots campaign to urge Democrat senators to fight for everyday Americans to drive down the cost of living by supporting permitting reform. That list includes Sens. Heinrich, Fetterman, Rosen, Warner, Cortez Masto, Ossoff, Gallego, and Gillibrand. AFP has long advocated for commonsense reforms that streamline permitting timelines, increase transparency, and ensure that projects are reviewed efficiently without unnecessary delays. AFP’s grassroots leaders traveled coast to coast last year as part of the Road to Prosperity Tour, visiting eleven states and calling on Congress to unleash private sector innovation to help drive down energy prices. Emily Brey, State Director of Americans for Prosperity also weighed in on the legislation from Senator McCormick. “Sen. McCormick understands that permitting reform is critical for Pennsylvania to reach its full economic potential by unlocking our abundant natural resources. A streamlined process for energy project permitting will create a boom in Pennsylvania’s energy sector while providing more affordable energy for hardworking families and moving the nation towards energy independence.” Americans for Prosperity urges lawmakers to prioritize meaningful permitting reform that accelerates project approvals. By doing so, Congress can help unlock domestic energy production, create jobs, and strengthen America’s energy independence.
