AFP Supports NJPI Pork Roll Report Highlighting Trenton’s Overspending

Trenton, NJ — Today, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) applauds the New Jersey Policy Institute’s Pork Roll Report that highlights the long-term growth of the state’s budget, including factors that have driven the increase. This week, Governor Mikie Sherrill proposed a budget that is 1.6 percent higher than last year’s $58.8 billion spending plan, despite the state anticipating a structural deficit of about $3 billion.

AFP Northeast Region Director Ross Connolly said:

“New Jersey has a spending problem that has nearly doubled the budget over the past two decades, contributing to the state’s growing affordability crisis. While Governor Sherrill admits Trenton must address the state’s deficit, her proposal still increases spending, adding roughly $980 million more than last year’s budget.

“AFP applauds the Pork Roll Report released by the New Jersey Policy Institute as it increases transparency as to what New Jerseyans’ taxpayer dollars are being put towards and helps to bring accountability to the budgeting process.”

“We call on Governor Sherrill to consider AFP’s Affordability Agenda and work toward policies that remove barriers, rein in costs, and make it easier for people across the Garden State to pursue their own version of the American Dream.”
