Slidell, LA — On Wednesday, Americans for Prosperity-Louisiana (AFP-LA) hosted a conversation entitled “Scoops & School Choice” with local parents and school choice advocates on the importance of fully funding the LA Gator Education Savings Account (ESA). Last week, Governor Landry requested that the state legislature double funding for the program.
AFP-LA State Director Scott Simon said:
“Every Louisiana student deserves to receive an education that works for their learning needs. The LA Gator program expands options by allowing parents to direct education funding to the setting that best fits their child. This year, the program received over 40,000 applicants, but current funding supports only 6,000 students, and roughly 5,600 students received scholarships.
“Governor Landry’s request to expand the scholarship program through a sustainable funding increase will strengthen parent-directed education and allow for more students to participate in the program. His plan will ensure the program grows in a fiscally responsible way that supports the long-term success of students. AFP-LA urges the legislature to fully fund the LA Gator at the level requested by the governor to ensure families across the state have access to the educational opportunities that best meet their children’s needs.”
