Americans for Prosperity Urges Swift, Bipartisan Passage of SPEED Act to Modernize Permitting and Lower Energy Costs

WASHINGTON, DC– Americans for Prosperity (AFP) applauds the House for passing H.R. 3898, the Promoting Efficient Review for Modern Infrastructure Today (PERMIT) Act, which streamlines the permitting review process, imposes clear deadlines, and injects predictability into the permitting system.

AFP Chief Government Affairs Officer Brent Gardner issued the following statement:

America needs to build more energy infrastructure, faster, and the PERMIT Act will help bring common sense to a permitting process that for too long has stifled investment and increased costs needlessly. We applaud House leadership for prioritizing our ability to unlock more affordable energy as American families and businesses are using more power every day.

Next week, Republicans and Democrats should work together to pass H.R. 4776, the Standardizing Permitting and Expediting Economic Development (SPEED) Act, and send these bills to the Senate and then on to President Trump to help America build again and win the race to global energy dominance.

Why Energy Abundance Matters for Affordability
Energy prices impact virtually everything people buy and need on a day-to-day basis. A lack of reliable, affordable, and abundant energy means even small price spikes send shockwaves through our economy with devastating consequences for other Americans—such as our farmers, who rely heavily on energy for every step of the process that helps produce, store, deliver food to our tables. When their costs go up, inevitably the costs of shipping and selling groceries also rise.

In September, Americans for Prosperity launched the national Road to Prosperity campaign to help unleash America’s potential by elevating the critical need for permitting reform. AFP hosted events in nearly a dozen states including visiting a power plant in Kentucky, an oil rig in Louisiana, a coal mine in Pennsylvania, an iron mine in Minnesota, an oil and gas processing site in Wyoming, a roundtable about coal in Ohio, and more events in Wisconsin, Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, Texas, and Utah. Follow along as the tour continues in 2026.

Through broad-based grassroots outreach, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is driving long-term solutions to the country’s biggest problems. AFP activists engage friends and neighbors on key issues and encourage them to take an active role in building a culture of mutual benefit, where people succeed by helping one another. AFP recruits and unites activists in all 50 states behind a common goal of advancing policies that will help people improve their lives. For more information, visit www.AmericansForProsperity.org
