AFP Calls on Senators Wyden and Merkley to End the Longest Government Shutdown in American History

Portland, OR — Today, as the government shutdown becomes the longest in American history, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is calling on Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley to put people over politics and support a clean continuing resolution to reopen the government.

Oregonians are feeling the pain from this shutdown. Working families across the state are feeling the pain of partisan politics. AFP calls out Democrat leaders who have dug in their heels and pursued a strategy of using the American people as leverage for their political games instead of doing what’s right for the American people.

AFP Western Region Director Heather Andrews released the following statement:

“America is now facing the longest government shutdown in its history. Senate Democrats own it.

“Senators Wyden and Merkley have opposed every effort to restore government operations, repeatedly rejecting a clean funding plan to reopen. This is the very same measure they backed thirteen times under Joe Biden.

“Oregonians deserve leaders who put them ahead of party politics. Wyden and Merkley should stop siding with party insiders, reject gridlock, and vote to get the government running again today.”
