AFP-MI Calls on Democrat Senators Slotkin and Peters to End Government Shutdown, Support a Clean Funding Bill

LANSING, MI – Today, Americans for Prosperity–Michigan (AFP-MI) called on Michigan’s Democrat Senators Elissa Slotkin and Gary Peters to put politics aside, support a clean continuing resolution, and reopen the federal government. Recent polling from AFP shows that 61% of Americans agree that shutdowns are bad for Congress’s ability to help the country succeed.

AFP-MI State Director Tim Golding released the following statement:

“Senators Slotkin and Peters need to stop playing Washington games and start putting Michigan families first. Their shutdown gambit completely ignores the needs of Michiganders, many of whom are already feeling the impact of this government shutdown. Approximately 56,000 federal employees reside in Michigan and may be furloughed or miss their next paycheck. Federally funded infrastructure projects are at risk of stalling, and recipients of public benefits could experience service disruptions.

“To vote for a clean continuing resolution is not an ideological choice. It is the responsible path forward for Senators who are accountable to their constituents. Michigan families and businesses will end up paying for the partisan actions of Slotkin and Peters. Republican or Democrat, it is time to act on behalf of the Michiganders they were elected to represent and vote for the clean continuing resolution.”

AFP-MI will continue to hold elected leaders accountable until Washington delivers the commonsense solutions hardworking Michiganders deserve.
