Nashville, TN – On Friday, the Tennessee Department of Education announced results from the inaugural year of the Education Freedom Scholarship Program, revealing widespread success and enthusiasm across the state. Americans for Prosperity-Tennessee (AFP-TN) worked with state lawmakers to pass the program during Governor Bill Lee’s Special Session earlier this year. Governor Bill Lee signed the groundbreaking legislation on February 12, 2025, establishing Tennessee’s universal school choice program.
AFP-TN State Director Tori Venable stated:
“Tennessee families have wholeheartedly embraced Education Freedom Scholarships, with applications doubling the available scholarships. We’re committed to working with legislators to clear the waitlist and provide parents with greater educational choices. The demand is clear, and we must create more opportunities for families.”
Lawmakers are set to reconvene in early January 2026 to address further expansion.
