West Palm Beach, FL—This week for Tax Day, Americans for Prosperity-Florida (AFP-FL) held an event with Congressman Brian Mast (FL-21) talking about the importance of renewing President Trump’s highly impactful Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) as part of its Protect Prosperity campaign.

If the TCJA expires at the end of the year, the average Florida family can expect to pay $3,505 more in federal taxes—which is a nightmare for many hardworking Americans. Rep. Mast spoke to dozens of attendees about the current budget process in Washington, D.C. and answered questions.

Concerned Veterans for America Executive Director, John Vick, also joined the event, talking about veterans’ perspectives to shape a freer, more secure society where Americans are empowered to achieve their American Dream.

“If we don’t renew the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, it would be the largest take hike on Americans,” Rep. Mast said. He reaffirmed Congress will renew the TCJA and added, “We’re going to bring about even more tax cuts […] more entrepreneurs, innovation, and freedom to the American people by letting you do more with more and the American government do more with less.”

“The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act created a mechanism, as one example, for dollars to be repatriated back from overseas. This was a big incentive for foreign companies to bring dollars back and they put a lot of people to work. The corporate tax rates were hugely beneficial to companies wanting to do more business and have more infrastructure here,” Rep. Mast added.

Congressman Mast also addressed out-of-control spending in Washington and the need to balance the budget. He stated in part, “We need to cut [spending], but these are problems not because we didn’t tax Americans enough, these are problems because the United States government spent too much. It is never a problem that we take less money out of the pocket of any American—never should that ever be said […] it is the work of your hands and your savings; it’s something that you went out there and gave your effort for.”
