AFP-TX Holds Lawmakers Accountable on School Choice Ahead of Final Vote

Apr 3, 2025 by AFP

AUSTIN, TX – Americans for Prosperity-Texas (AFP-TX) celebrated the passage of a historic school choice bill out of the Texas House Public Education Committee on Thursday and stepped up its accountability efforts on lawmakers who promised to deliver Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) in their campaigns.

AFP-TX grassroots activists are continuing their operations in key members’ districts across the state ahead of the House floor vote on H.B.3, going door to door urging constituents to call their lawmakers in support of the bill.

AFP-TX is also awarding state lawmakers with “Trailblazer for School Choice Awards” in recognition of their continued support for universal school choice after campaigning on the issue in 2024.

Genevieve Collins, AFP-TX state director, gave the following statement:

“With Texas just one vote away from granting complete education freedom, it’s time for our elected leaders to make good on their promises to support this historic legislation.

“While we’re confident this bill will become law, we’re not taking anything for granted – that’s why our grassroots army is staying on the ground and under the Capitol dome every day to see it across the finish line.

“Education freedom will come to Texas one way or the other. To any members thinking about reneging on their pledge to vote for this bill, AFP-TX will make sure you lose your seat next year, just like we did in 2024.”

Background:

In 2024, AFP-TX engaged in a record number of state legislative races, helping to unseat six anti-school choice Republican lawmakers and electing 21 outstanding candidates (15 percent) of the state legislature.
