SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Today, Americans for Prosperity-Utah (AFP-UT) celebrated Governor Spencer Cox’s signature on H.B. 474, making Utah the sixth state in the nation to implement this kind of legislative check on the bureaucracy to prevent expensive regulations.
The bill will make the Utah legislature vote on rules with a projected impact of $2 million or more over a five-year period, putting a roadblock ahead of regulations that would harm Utah’s fast-growing economy. With support from AFP-UT, the bill passed the House of Representatives unanimously last month.
AFP-UT State Director Kevin Greene gave the following statement:
“Thank you to Governor Cox and every lawmaker who took this critical step to restore the balance of power in our state government. Utah is already one of the best-run states in the nation, and REINS will make the executive branch even more transparent and accountable to taxpayers. We’re excited to see REINS in action as it breaks down barriers that make life harder for hardworking Utahns.”
Background:
This year, AFP is fighting to pass REINS-style legislation in nearly two dozen states by unleashing its grassroots army to inform citizens in key regions, deploying targeted digital ads and mail campaigns, and connecting constituents with their elected representatives to demand regulatory reform.
