Arlington, VA — With the House’s passage of the latest funding resolution to reopen the government through the end of January, Americans for Prosperity commends Speaker Johnson and Majority Leader Thune for their steadfast leadership and commitment to putting the needs of the American people above partisan politics.
This shutdown—driven by political brinkmanship—placed millions of Americans in difficult circumstances. Families relying on assistance, federal employees missing paychecks, and small businesses dependent on government services all felt the consequences of Washington’s dysfunction.
Brent Gardner, Chief Government Affairs Officer at Americans for Prosperity, issued the following statement:
Speaker Johnson’s leadership played a crucial role in ending this senseless government shutdown and restoring essential services for the American people. With both chambers now approving funding, it’s clear this shutdown was never about policy—it was about politics. Americans deserved better.
Now, with the government fully operational, the doors are open to refocus on what truly matters—putting our country on a trajectory of growth where we unleash American energy, expand opportunity, and empower every citizen to choose the best options for themselves across every industry, including the healthcare sector.
As the government reopens, AFP will continue to champion bottom-up solutions, responsible governance, and policies that empower individuals—not bureaucracies.
Through broad-based grassroots outreach, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is driving long-term solutions to the country’s biggest problems. AFP activists engage friends and neighbors on key issues and encourage them to take an active role in building a culture of mutual benefit, where people succeed by helping one another. AFP recruits and unites activists in all 50 states behind a common goal of advancing policies that will help people improve their lives. For more information, visit www.AmericansForProsperity.org
