This Democrat Shutdown Hurts Our Troops, Families, and Communities

WASHINGTON, D.C – As the government enters the fourth week of the shutdown, Democrats have voted 12 times against reopening. Their continued obstruction is keeping the government shut down and harming Americans across the country. Under Joe Biden, Democrats voted 13 times to pass continuing resolutions to keep the government open. Brent Gardner, Chief Government Affairs Officer of Americans for Prosperity said:

Democrats had chances over and over again to support a clean funding bill that protects our troops, seniors, and working families—but every time they chose politics over people. It’s time to stop the games, reopen the government, and start delivering real solutions. The American people deserve better than to be used by Democrats as political leverage.”

What democrats are voting against:

  • Paying 1.3 million active-duty troops going without pay.
  • Providing critical food assistance through the WIC program for low-income women, infants, and children.
  • Giving telehealth services for seniors and in-home treatment options for Medicare patients.
  • Paying nearly 50,000 members of the U.S. Coast Guard.
  • Paying 13,000 air traffic controllers, as well as TSA Agents—creating flight disruptions and significant travel delays.
  • Paying over 150,000 federal law enforcement officers, including Border Patrol and ICE.
  • Providing critical veterans’ care and assistance programs.
  • Low‑income rental assistance and funding for homeless veterans and families.”

Using a shutdown for “leverage,” is not fair to hardworking taxpayers. Americans for Prosperity stands with the millions of Americans impacted by this failure and urges Congress to reopen the government and deliver real results for the American people.
