Arlington, Va. – Today Americans for Prosperity, the nation’s largest advocate for economic freedom, cheered President Trump for following through on his commitment to reform the tax code in favor of middle class families, entrepreneurs, and job creators. The group made tax reform a top federal priority in 2017, and engaged its nationwide grassroots infrastructure in support of a positive vision to unrig the economy.
AFP President Tim Phillips made this statement:
“Americans have much to celebrate today, as a pro-growth plan for tax reform becomes law. The Trump Administration deserves great credit for a relentless focus on getting this done, just as we have all year long at AFP. With President Trump’s signature, the stage is set for a new era of higher wages, more jobs, and economic growth not seen in years.
“Our next move is to make sure the American people fully understand the significant benefit these reforms bring. That effort is already underway, and will accelerate very soon.”
BACKGROUND:
AFP’s 36 state chapters held more than 100 grassroots events throughout the summer and fall, which saw the organization partner with local communities, elected officials and policy experts to highlight the beneficial impact of comprehensive tax reform.
During “Days of Action” hosted by AFP, grassroots activists knocked on tens of thousands of doors and made hundreds of thousands of phone calls – ultimately contacting 1.8 million Americans to generate support for tax reform.
AFP and other grassroots leaders hosted press conferences throughout the year with major stakeholders in the tax reform debate such as Rep. Meadows and Senators Perdue, Tillis and Heller, in addition to holding events with White House Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and White House Legislative Affairs Director Marc Short in support of tax reform. These gatherings were crucial to fostering unity and momentum in Washington for this once-in-a-generation opportunity to unrig the economy.
In Washington, the group’s government affairs team advanced AFP’s vision in over 1,000 meetings with congressional leaders and assembled more than a robust group of coalition partners in support of tax reform. The group also issued key vote alerts to hold lawmakers in the House and Senate accountable for crucial efforts to advance tax reform.
