ARLINGTON, VA—Today, Americans for Prosperity launched a major campaign urging Congress to pass the bipartisan, bicameral Prevent Government Shutdowns Act ahead of its vote on the Senate floor this week. The six-figure effort will feature digital ads in a number of key states and districts and a landing page at PreventGovernmentShutdowns.com to encourage voters to write their representatives and tell them to end this insane cycle of crisis-to-crisis governing that results in bad deals and bad policy.
Americans for Prosperity’s Chief Government Affairs Officer Brent Gardner said:
“In a little more than three weeks, we are facing yet another shutdown that will hamstring Congress’ ability to address the high costs of living and the pressing challenges Americans are facing. For the sake of the many families who are suffering under Biden’s failed policies, it’s time to end this never-ending cycle of shutdowns. Congress has budgeted without the threat of shutdowns for most of our country’s history and has an opportunity to act now to take shutdowns off the table for good. Americans shouldn’t have to pay the price because Congress can’t get its work done. We are urging the Senate to pass the Prevent Government Shutdowns Act and end government shutdowns so that lawmakers can focus on solving real problems rather than just cobbling together the next stopgap.”
“Pass the Prevent Government Shutdowns Act Before It’s Too Late”
The Prevent Government Shutdowns Act, led by Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) and Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH), along with Rep. Jodey Arrington (R-TX) and Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-CA), is a simple way to prevent the crisis-to-crisis shutdown scenarios we see every year. For more on this bill, see Sen. Lankford break down this solution to stop shutdowns on the American Potential podcast.
To take action, sign the letter telling Congress to prevent future government shutdowns. The ads will air in Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, West Virginia, and Wisconsin targeting Senators Peters, Tester, Shaheen, Manchin, and Baldwin.
