Background:
Despite a $1.2 billion surplus, we’ve already seen proposals for higher gas taxes, higher payroll taxes, higher electricity rates and billions more in borrowing and debt. Minnesotans understand that more spending does not necessarily or automatically bring better results. Lawmakers should work together to relieve Minnesotan’s 6th worst in the nation tax burden and structurally reform ongoing spending commitments, instead of pursuing ways to spend it. The out of control spending of recent years isn’t good for Minnesota’s long-term economic health, nor will it help Minnesota’s bloated administrative state deliver better services.
An updated version of AFP-MN’s “Roadmap to Prosperity” will be available the day of the event at www.mnroadmap.com. The “Roadmap to Prosperity” is a simple guide for lawmakers to help make Minnesota the best state to live, work, and raise a family, with critical reforms grouped into five key areas: restore fiscal stability, enable innovation, increase investment in our kids, expand access to the American Dream, and protect taxpayers.
Attendees to the Session Preview Dinner will receive more information on these important issues facing Minnesotans, hear firsthand from Legislative leaders, and learn how they can help make a real difference at the state capitol – for their families, communities, and the state’s future.
