ARLINGTON, VA — With many Americans hopeful that Democrats would finally end their obstruction and reopen the government, headlines today provide another reminder that this shutdown is all about political leverage. ABC News reports, “Shutdown progress in doubt as Democrats grow emboldened from election wins.”
Despite growing public frustration and major disruptions heading into the holiday season, Democrats are refusing to reopen the government because they think they are winning. And as long as Democrats think they are benefitting politically, it doesn’t matter how many Americans suffer.
Kent Strang, Managing Director of Americans for Prosperity, issued the following statement:
While Americans go unpaid, essential services grind to a halt, and flights are delayed or cancelled, the far-left wing of the Democrat Party treats the American people like their leverage. Senate Democrats are keeping the government closed to appease their progressive base ignoring the real-world consequences for families, workers, and national security. It’s time for Democrats to stop the games, reject the chaos, and support a clean CR to reopen the government.
As AFP is committed to standing up for American families affected by this Democrat shutdown and amplifying their voices in Washington. It’s time for Democrats to stop the brinkmanship and work across the aisle to reopen the government and restore critical services.
Through broad-based grassroots outreach, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is driving long-term solutions to the country’s biggest problems. AFP activists engage friends and neighbors on key issues and encourage them to take an active role in building a culture of mutual benefit, where people succeed by helping one another. AFP recruits and unites activists in all 50 states behind a common goal of advancing policies that will help people improve their lives. For more information, visit www.AmericansForProsperity.org
