ICYMI: Media Covers Reaction to Major Tax Reform Bill Passing

Jun 29, 2021 by AFP

Last week, the Arizona legislature passed a major tax reform bill that reduces the state’s personal income tax rate to one flat rate of 2.5% with a cap of 4.5%.

MSN posted an article from the Center Square highlighting the tax reform bill’s passage and the reaction from key stakeholders in the state. The piece includes AFP-Arizona State Director Stephen Shadegg:

Organizations who fought for, and against, the tax cut reacted to the bill’s passage.

“Today’s vote is a huge victory for our state, setting up economic growth for years to come,” said Steven Shadegg, Arizona director of Americans for Prosperity. “With a surplus of nearly $4 billion by 2022, enabling Arizonans to keep more of what they earn will help small businesses grow and create more jobs and increase our state’s competitiveness for residents looking to relocate from high tax states.”

Shadegg, along with organizations like Americans for Tax Reform, had been pushing lawmakers for the tax cut.

AFP-AZ had been at the forefront of supporting the tax reform proposal since the beginning of the year. The grassroots group ran a robust a six-figure ad and grassroots campaign that reached hundreds of thousands of Arizonans about tax relief and helped connect thousands of Arizonans with their legislators to urge them to support the bill. The campaign followed a survey AFP-AZ commissioned that found the vast majority of surveyed Arizonans support decreasing the personal income tax rate.
