ICYMI: It’s Time to Fight for Freedom and Opportunity

ARLINGTON, VA— In a recent op-ed published in the DC Journal, Kent Strang, Managing Director of Americans for Prosperity, argues that expanding economic freedom and reducing government barriers is essential to restoring opportunity and prosperity in the United States. The piece makes the case that empowering individuals, rather than expanding bureaucracy, is the key to long-term growth and success.

It’s Time to Fight for Freedom and Opportunity

Families nationwide are budgeting for groceries, rent and mortgages, car payments, and vacations as part of their American Dream. For millions of these Americans, affordability is not a talking point; it is their everyday, and too often a source of stress.

As President Trump points to the progress his administration has made in lowering costs, it’s time to continue building on this momentum to restore economic freedom and opportunity for American families.

Many of last year’s biggest policy fights — and triumphs — laid the groundwork for undoing the economic chaos of the Biden administration. By passing the Working Families Tax Cut, Congress protected families from a historic tax hike that would have increased the average family’s tax bill by $1,500 a year.

There is still work to be done. Families are still recovering from 40-year high inflation and the soaring gas and grocery prices.

Americans for Prosperity talks to Americans daily at their homes, on the phone and at events nationwide. They tell us the same thing: Life is too expensive. They need affordable food, lower utility bills, and an economy that encourages growth — and they don’t want Washington politicians to limit their freedom or treat their money like a blank check.

Voters know that the best path forward to a stronger, more resilient country is to expand freedom and opportunity, not to make government bigger. In fact, recent polling from Public Opinion Strategies and Americans for Prosperity shows that 67 percent of voters think government regulations are to blame for higher costs.

They’re right. Thankfully, by unleashing the power of the free market and eliminating excessive government regulation, we can make life more affordable for Americans and set our economy up for years of success.

The conflict in Iran led to crude oil and liquefied natural gas deliveries getting stuck in transit through the Strait of Hormuz, which has raised prices at the pump. It’s a lesson that energy security is national security, and to ensure that we don’t keep American energy on the sidelines, Congress can eliminate the red tape that is holding back over 650 energy projects and costing our economy tens of thousands of jobs.

Removing these regulations and producing more energy in the country means lower prices for the American people and more money in their pockets, rather than money wasted on government inefficiency.
