SALT LAKE CITY, UT – In case you missed it, Americans for Prosperity-Utah (AFP-UT) State Director Kevin Greene has a new op-ed in the Deseret News calling for lawmakers to quickly implement free market reforms to fix Utah’s spiraling housing crisis, as the average price of a home surges toward $1 million.
With surging home prices and record demand, Greene writes that out-of-date zoning regulations and arbitrary rules for new homes are closing the door to opportunity for families looking to live and work in the Beehive State.
Greene writes:
“If current trends continue, the average Utah home price could approach $1 million by 2030. For most Utahns, that’s not just a price tag; it’s a locked door on the American Dream. It’s time to act before Utah faces a California-like population decline.
…
“Utah has a choice: either we empower the free market and respect property rights, or we let government red tape and artificial scarcity push homeownership out of reach for an entire generation.”
