COLUMBIA, SC – Today, Americans for Prosperity-South Carolina (AFP-SC) gathered grassroots activists to testify in front of the South Carolina Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on why H.3021 / S. 254, the Small Business Regulatory Freedom Act, is needed.

Gail Nicholls, owner of the Red Bug Barn:

“To apply H.3021 fairly across the board and to make it a positive impact for small businesses in every industry, we respectfully ask that you support the Small Business Regulatory Freedom Act as it is written. For when we start chopping it up and creating special caveats for some industries but not others, we’re ignoring the plight at hand: that all small businesses across the board are struggling with excessive regulatory oversight and need help.”

Joe Trapp, mechanical contractor and licensed plumber:

“I once pointed out to someone at one of these agencies that, while we were talking on the phone, I was not working and therefore losing money, while they were on the clock and making money.”

Weyman Dublin, former Great Steak franchisee:

“It’s the small business owner that is the backbone of the American dream. And it’s those small business owners that are impacted the most by all of these regulations.”

AFP-SC State Director Matt Humm released the following statement:

Small businesses are vital to South Carolina’s economy. In fact, the U.S. Small Business Administration says that small businesses make up around 99% of all businesses operating in the state. Our elected officials should be actively looking for ways to make the lives of our small business owners easier. That’s why the Small Business Regulatory Freedom Act is so necessary.”
