ALBUQUERQUE, NM — This weekend, Americans for Prosperity-New Mexico (AFP-NM) held a weekend of grassroots action, driving hundreds of constituent actions pressuring Senator Martin Heinrich, Ranking Member on the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, to support permitting reform to ensure America’s energy future is defined by certainty, affordability, speed, and strategic independence.
A top federal legislative priority for AFP, reforming the burdensome and overly bureaucratic permitting process by passing the SPEED Act and PERMIT Act will ensure America’s energy future is defined by certainty, affordability, speed and strategic independence. New Mexico is a leading producer of crude oil and natural gas in the United States, and the Land of Enchantment is counting on Sen. Heinrich to unleash energy abundance in the state.
On Friday, AFP-NM also hosted an energy panel featuring Rep. Rod Montoya, New Mexico Oil and Gas Association President Missi Currier, and Consumer Energy Alliance Vice President Matt Gonzales, highlighting why responsible energy production and permitting reform matter for affordability, jobs, and New Mexico’s future. Attendees were encouraged to contact Senator Heinrich and urge action while the Senate has a real opportunity to move reform forward.
AFP-NM State Director Sarah Hetemi issued the following statement:
“AFP-NM spent the weekend canvassing Albuquerque, speaking with New Mexicans about the importance of affordable energy and permitting reform to New Mexico’s future. Staff and activists from across the state urged Senator Martin Heinrich to lead on commonsense permitting reform. With nearly one-third of New Mexico’s land under federal control, permitting delays hit hardworking families especially hard — raising costs and slowing opportunity.
“Senator Heinrich has the opportunity to pass permitting reform in the Senate to help ensure New Mexico’s energy future is defined by certainty, affordability, speed and strategic independence.”
