ICYMI: AFP-Nevada Hosts Immigration Event in Reno
RENO, NV – On Monday, July 29, Americans for Prosperity-Nevada (AFP-NV) hosted an immigration event with former Chief Border Patrol Agent Chris Clem and President of the LIBRE Initiative, Daniel Gaza.
The event welcomed 150 guests from the community to discuss an issue top of mind for many Nevadans – how to secure the southern border and reform the U.S. immigration system. Chief Clem shared his 27 years of experience as a U.S. Border Patrol agent and offer real solutions to securing the U.S.-Mexico border, stopping the illegal trafficking of deadly drugs like fentanyl, and restoring order to the asylum process.
“The crisis at the border should be the number one priority for Congress. It’s not only what I think, but according to polling conducted by Americans for Prosperity, that’s what a majority of Americans want. We have had over 7 million people illegally crossing our southern border in the last three and a half years. We need bipartisan action that secures our border now, and we need our legislators to understand that it’s not a matter of demonizing immigration but securing America. As I usually say, we need tall fences and wide gates to address our border and immigration problems. We need to control our border immediately, and we need to have clear and predictable rules on immigration that creates a system that is transparent so that we can increase American competitiveness through an effective immigration system. The current situation is not working for anyone, and it’s no longer a problem for the border, is an issue for all of us”, said retired US Border Patrol, Chief Patrol Agent, Chris Clem.
AFP-NV State Director Ronnie Najarro also shared, “every state is a border state amid this unprecedented border crisis. Nevadans are calling on Jacky Rosen and our elected officials to secure the border by providing increased infrastructure, boots on the ground and technology along the southern border. As an immigrant who fled El Salvador with his family for a more prosperous future, I know firsthand the importance of immigration to our communities and our economy in Nevada and across the country. Our elected officials owe it to Nevadans to pass real reform in Washington.”
