Jackson, MI – Yesterday, Americans for Prosperity–Michigan (AFP-MI) held a demonstration outside Senator Elissa Slotkin’s “”Small Business Leaders Listening Session” in response to her opposition to extending the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA).
Activists gathered outside of this event to remind Senator Slotkin that failing to renew the TCJA would cause tax hikes for Michigan families and drive job losses for small businesses across the Great Lakes State. If Congress fails to renew the TCJA, Michigan families’ federal tax bill will increase by $2,054 and the state could lose over 22,000 jobs.
This event was part of AFP’s national “Protect Prosperity” campaign, which is focused on urging Congress to protect families and businesses across the country from crippling tax hikes by renewing the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act this year.
AFP-MI State Director Tim Golding released the following statement:
“Since 2017, the financial relief provided by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act has been a driving force for economic growth and prosperity in Michigan. Families and businesses rely on these tax cuts to continue rebuilding our state’s economy, which continues to struggle.
“As Senator Slotkin holds events to discuss the challenges facing small businesses in our state, she would do well to recognize that the biggest challenge facing Michiganders is the largest tax hike in history if Congress fails to act. AFP urges Senator Slotkin to listen to the voices of families and business owners in her state and change course to support the extension of these tax cuts.”
