ICYMI: AFP-KY Hosts Energy Event Focused on Permitting Reform

Ghent, KY – On Friday, Americans for Prosperity–Kentucky (AFP-KY) hosted an energy discussion and facility tour at the Ghent power plant, spotlighting the urgent need for federal permitting reform and the impact of federal regulations on Kentucky’s energy sector.

As part of AFP’s national “Road to Prosperity” initiative advocating for federal reforms, the event highlighted how permitting delays threaten local industries, raise costs for families, and undermine energy security. The discussion bridged the gap between national policy debates and the real-world challenges facing Kentuckians.

State Sen. Gex Williams (R-Verona) said:

“Forty percent of steel is recycled right here in Kentucky because of plants like this power plant. We are counting on the federal government to make permanent changes so businesses have certainty to grow, expand, and modernize without risk of being shut down. Power is essential to our lives. My constituents have concerns about power outages during natural disasters or increases in demand, and that puts lives at risk.”

Heather LeMire, AFP-KY State Director, added:

“Kentucky families depend on affordable, reliable power, and that requires a permitting system that works. Right now, red tape is slowing investment and threatening reliability. This discussion made clear that Congress must act to make recent reforms permanent and give communities the certainty they deserve.”
