ARLINGTON, VA— This week, in celebration of National Small Business Week, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) highlighted the transformative impact the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) has had on small businesses across the country—and why renewing it is essential to sustaining that growth.
On Monday, AFP released new polling showing broad support across party lines for extending the TCJA, with 84% of voters in favor of keeping the current tax rates in place.
On Tuesday, AFP hosted a conversation with Republican Conference Chair Lisa McClain (MI-09) about the status of the budget reconciliation bill, with much of the focus on the positive impact of renewing the Trump tax cuts for small businesses.
As Republicans continue to work on the budget reconciliation process to renew the TCJA, AFP pushed lawmakers to eliminate wasteful Green New Deal spending to ensure that no American—or small business—sees their taxes increase next year.
Throughout the week, AFP shared real stories of entrepreneurs who, thanks to the TCJA, were able to invest in their dreams, grow their teams, and build stronger communities.
In Louisiana, Chase, part-owner of Pelican Pawn Shop, highlighted the wide-reaching impacts of a failure to renew the Trump tax cuts, saying:
When taxes go up for small business owners, it’s not just the business that suffers — it’s our families, employees, and communities.”
In Michigan, a new AFP ad features Angela, President of the Michigan Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors, who is concerned with the risks that failing to renew the TCJA will bring, saying:
“I work with a lot of contractors who are small business owners. They’re trying to provide for their families, provide for their employees, and this [tax hike] could have a huge impact on them too.”
In Mississippi, business owners shared how the TCJA has helped them expand their businesses and highlighted what is at risk if these tax cuts expire.
In North Carolina, Jim Rhoades-Baldwin, Chief Pilot and flight instructor at Centerline Aviation Services shared how the TCJA helped him build his business, saying:
“With the Trump Tax Cuts, I was able to purchase our first airplane for our flight school…that jumpstarted our business and basically gave us the operating capital that we needed to operate and open the school, hire an instructor, and kick off the first year of our flight school.”
In Ohio, Chris, Owner of TRI County Tower LLC, shared how the TCJA helped his business grow so he could employ more members of his community, saying:
“In a small town, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act has allowed us to become one of the leading employers in the area. We increased salaries across the board by 30%; it’s helped us raise up the people in our community.”
In Pennsylvania, AFP partnered with the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry to urge Congress to make the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent and small business owners shared their stories of how the Trump tax cuts helped them invest in their businesses and communities.
In Texas, George, a co-owner of 5×5 Brewing Co., shared how the TCJA allowed him to invest in building his company:
“The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was able to get us 100% write-off provisions on equipment that we would purchase. Being able to do that led to a lot of economic upsides … [it] let us invest in equipment, reinvest in our employees, give raises, and hire more employees.”
