An Important Step To Modernizing Federal Cannabis Policy

WASHINGTON, DC – In response to President Trump’s executive order this afternoon rescheduling cannabis from Schedule I to Schedule III, Americans for Prosperity Chief Government Affairs Officer Brent Gardner issued the following statement: 

“The Trump Administration’s decision to move forward with rescheduling cannabis is an important step toward modernizing federal policy. Americans for Prosperity hopes to build on this progress by moving us closer to a framework that respects state autonomy and limits unnecessary federal intervention. That framework will require legislative action, and we urge Congress to take meaningful steps soon. Today’s announcement puts us on a positive path toward that outcome, and we encourage continued efforts to ensure reforms safeguard both individual freedom and state-led innovation.”
